I think it’s a good idea, but it depends on a couple of things. You have to ask yourself how much freedom you want. That was a big reason why we chose to do it. Another factor is figuring out how you really want to travel when you’re in Europe. If you see yourself doing more car rentals, that’s another good reason why we liked the decision to ship our own car.
All right, so that covers whether or not we think it’s a good idea. It really depends on the experience that you want to have, and that’s something only you can answer for yourself. All we can tell you is we’ve done it, and it was awesome.
Did we have any issues
What can you expect as an American driving your car in Europe? If you come from a state that does not require a license plate in the front, get one. Yeah, get one. Whenever we crossed a border, we always got a weird look, and honestly, they were looking for a license plate on the front of the vehicle. So we were going through a checkpoint in the Netherlands, and this Dutch guy was like, “You have no license plate on your front. You need to have it.” We were like, “You know, we’re from Florida. We don’t really put license plates on the front.” And this guy wasn’t going to let us pass. We were like, “What do you want us to do?” And he was just like, “Okay, you go.” So we got lucky, but the point is that you might be okay, but everybody in Europe has a license plate on the front and back of their vehicle. So we highly recommend that you put one on the front as well, just so you don’t have to worry about it.
